- Get the lease details in writing: rent, deposit, fees, pet terms, move-in date and time, where to get keys.
- Check internet at your new address and book an install for move-in day:
- AT&T (including AT&T Fiber in parts of Longview): 1-800-464-7928
- Sparklight: sparklight.com/longview
- Cablelynx / Longview Cable TV: 1-800-903-0508
- Book movers or a truck. End-of-month dates go first.

Move-in day
- Walk the apartment with the move-in form. Photograph every scuff, stain and chip before you unload.
- Test lights, outlets, A/C and heat, hot water, toilets, sinks, the dishwasher and every appliance.
- Test smoke alarms. Find the water shut-off and breaker box.
- Hook up your washer and dryer, if you are bringing them.
- Save the after-hours maintenance number in your phone.
- Get gate, mailbox and any amenity access set up.
Within 30 days: register your car in Texas
New residents have 30 days to register a vehicle in Texas (TxDMV New to Texas).
- Get Texas liability insurance: at least $30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per accident, $25,000 property damage.
- Gregg County is not an emissions-test county. Non-commercial vehicles no longer need a yearly safety inspection; you pay an inspection replacement fee at registration instead.
- Fill out Form 130-U (Application for Texas Title and/or Registration).
- Take your out-of-state registration or title, insurance card, ID and Form 130-U to the Gregg County Tax Assessor-Collector, 100 E. Methvin St., Longview. Phone: 903-236-8417. Call first to confirm the suite and hours.
- Budget for the state registration fee ($51.75) plus county fees and a new-resident tax.
Within 90 days: Texas driver license
New residents must get a Texas driver license within 90 days (TxDMV New to Texas). Register your car first.

- Bring your out-of-state license, proof of identity, Social Security number, two proofs of Texas residency (your lease and a utility bill work well), and proof of Texas vehicle registration and insurance for each car you own.
