If you work at a hospital
Both hospitals are close to north Longview. Longview Regional is about 3 minutes from the Magnolia Ln area and CHRISTUS Good Shepherd about 6. For 12-hour shifts, that short drive matters most at 7 p.m. after a long day, and at 6 a.m. when you would rather sleep 20 more minutes.
CHRISTUS is also building a new cancer center in Longview. It broke ground in January 2025 (CHRISTUS Health), and an interim oncology clinic opened at CHRISTUS NorthPark on E. Hawkins Pkwy. in north Longview.
Ask the apartment: Can you put in maintenance requests online, and what are the office hours? If you work days, office hours decide when you can stop by.
If you work at Eastman
Eastman's Texas Operations site is on the south side of Longview. From north Longview, the drive is about 13 minutes. Apartments on the south side are closer. North Longview puts you near more shopping and restaurants. It is a trade-off: about 10 extra minutes each way for being closer to everything else.
You may have read about Eastman's planned $1.2 billion recycling plant in Longview. Eastman delayed construction in August 2025 after a federal grant was cancelled (Chemical Processing). We found no new start date as of October 2026.
If you work or study at LeTourneau
LeTourneau University is on S. Mobberly Ave., about 12 minutes from north Longview. The Belcher Center on campus also hosts concerts and shows through the year.
New jobs on the north side
Ninth Avenue Foods is building a dairy plant in the North Longview Business Park on Lou Galosy Way. It is expected to bring about 150 jobs, with completion targeted for November 2027 (KLTV).
Roadwork to plan around
Loop 281 is being resurfaced between Shofner Dr. and US 259, mostly at night, with work expected to wrap up in early 2027 (KLTV). If you work nights, check the closures on your route.
Tips for choosing by commute
- Drive the route at the time you would actually go to work.
- Count the left turns across traffic. A short drive with three tough left turns can be slower than a longer one.
- Check where you would buy groceries and fill up on gas on the way home.
- If two people work in different parts of town, pick the middle. In Longview, that often means north or central.
